Chocolate Pretzel Bark
Ingredients:
12 oz. bag dark chocolate chips
1 tbsp. butter
3 cups pretzels (thin)
1 tbsp. butter
3 cups pretzels (thin)
Directions:
Pour chocolate chips and a pat of butter into a medium-sized bowl. Melt chocolate chips and butter in microwave for one minute. (Not pictured for safety.) Mix melted chocolate until completely smooth. It will be warm. Place pretzels in a gallon-sized freezer bag. Help your child to crush the pretzels by hand into small pieces. (The best part!) Pour crushed pretzels into melted chocolate and blend with a wooden spoon.
Place a sheet of waxed paper on the counter. Pour chocolate pretzel mixture onto waxed paper. Cover with a second sheet. Use a rolling pin to flatten the mixture into a large chocolate pancake. Refrigerate for several hours until chocolate hardens completely. Remove from refrigerator, peel off waxed paper, and break into large pieces. Enjoy!

Guiding Note to Grown-Up:
Begin by clearing space on the bottom shelf of the fridge for your chocolate pretzel bark to cool. Gather ingredients and the following materials: waxed paper, a cookie sheet, a rolling pin, a gallon-sized freezer bag, and a medium-large glass bowl. I recommend using a clear bowl so that your child can see the difference between the chips and the melted chocolate from the side at eye-level. Check the temperature of the chocolate after melting. If you feel it's necessary, let cool briefly before stirring.
When crushing pretzels, make sure the plastic bag is tightly sealed.
Your child can use his or her palms to flatten the chocolate pretzel mixture, in addition to (or even instead of) a rolling pin. It will feel pleasantly warm, and smell delicious. Linger a little to enjoy the sensory experience. Slip chocolate pancake onto a cookie sheet before moving to the fridge to cool.
