Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients:
12 oz. bag of fresh cranberries
1 cup of water
2/3 cup of sugar (to taste)
2 clementines
Handful of yellow raisins
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
1 cup of water
2/3 cup of sugar (to taste)
2 clementines
Handful of yellow raisins
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Directions:
Do Together: Rinse cranberries, remove any stems, and set aside. In a medium saucepan on your countertop, have your child add water and sugar and stir until sugar dissolves completely. Next add cranberries, followed by a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg.
For Grown-Up Only: After you have completed #5, transfer the saucepan to stovetop and turn on heat. (Not pictured for child's safety.) Bring the cranberry mixture to a boil and let it simmer. You may see froth and hear popping cranberry skins, while the spicy scent fills your kitchen. Enjoy these rich sensory details with your child. It's an accessible part of the cooking experience that can be savored together. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries soften and deepen in color. Remove from heat and let cool completely (about 30 minutes) before bringing your child back into the action for #6.
Do Together: Have your child peel and add clementine slices, and sprinkle in a handful of yellow raisins. Your child can stir the thickening mixture until it is evenly mixed. Chill in the fridge until ready to eat. This recipe can be made several days ahead of time.
